Afrobeats has taken the world by storm. With sounds out of Africa topping international charts, the genre has led to some of the best festivals around the globe. These festivals offer a fusion of music and culture stemming from African roots. Some of the popular Afrobeats festivals include:

AfroFuture 

Formerly known as Afrochella, AfroFuture adds an exciting dimension to Ghana’s cultural scene in December. This lively celebration is not just about music; it’s also a showcase of art. Organized by Culture Management Group, it has featured stars like Asake, Ayra Starr, Rema, Black Sherif, and even Burna Boy, creating an immersive blend where music meets with arts. At the conclusion of their 2022 festival, AfroFuture made an announcement that they wouldn’t be returning to Ghana in 2023. Co-founder Abdul Abdullah shared the news at the El-Wak stadium in Accra, stating, “This is the last Afrochella.”

Felabration

An ode to the legendary Fela Kuti, Felabration is an annual festival that celebrates Afrobeat, Nigerian culture, and Fela’s timeless music. Millions celebrate Fela Kuti, the creator of Afrobeat and a respected activist, as a hero for his profound impact on society. The week-long multifaceted festival honors his legacy.

Afronation

 Afro Nation is a yearly music festival organised by a dynamic partnership of Live Nation, Event Horizon, Smade Entertainment, and Memories of Tomorrow. It came to life in 2019 at Portimão, Portugal. Furthermore, it celebrates the fusion of Afrobeatsand genres such as Hip Hop, R&B, Dancehall and much more. In recognition of its excellence, the festival earned a nomination in the “Best Overseas Festival” category at the 2019 UK Festival Awards.

Homecoming

The aim of Homecoming is to equip African youth with the tools and insights required to inspire innovation and drive growth across industries. With panels, workshops and musical performances, the festival gives an all-round experience for creatives. It is a cultural exchange that reunites African creatives with their roots and provides them with the support necessary to carry their visions to a global stage.

Palmwine fest

The popular Show Dem Camp pioneered the Palmwine Music Festival in 2017, creating a live music event designed to showcase and enjoy Nigeria’s growing alternative music scene. The festival blends live music, art, food, DJ performances, merchandise, and the signature Palmwine drink. Flytime Fest

Flytime Fest is Africa’s biggest indoor music and live entertainment festivals, featuring a diverse lineup of genres and talents from the continent and beyond. The next edition would be coming up on the 21st to the 25th of December 2023 at Eko Convention Centre, Lagos, Nigeria.
